About me

Dr Dan Swan is a Queensland trained General Surgeon who currently practices at St Andrews Hospital Ipswich, Ipswich Day Hospital, and Ipswich General Hospital. He has recently gone into practice with 3 other general surgeons – Dr Peter Coverdale, Dr Reuben Ndegwa and Dr Tim Eviston – and together with them looks forward to offering a comprehensive service to the people of Ipswich.   He completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 2002 and worked through a variety of Queensland Hospitals, as well as a stint in Dublin, Ireland as a junior doctor. He then progressed to General Surgical Training via the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, gaining fellowship in 2013.   After one year in Wagga Wagga as a General Surgical Fellow, he returned to Ipswich General Hospital as a Visiting Medical Officer, before being appointed Director of Surgery in 2015.  Since stepping down as Director of Surgery in 2024 he has recently joined the ADF as a reservist.

 

Dan provides a comprehensive general surgical service including the following: Gastroscopy and colonoscopy ; Skin malignancy excisions including local skin flaps and skin grafts, sentinel lymph node biopsy and inguinal/axillary dissection ; Ventral/Incisional/Umbilical/Inguinal and Femoral hernia repair including abdominal wall reconstruction for complex abdominal wall hernias ; Cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration ; Small bowel and colonic resections for various conditions including malignancy ; Treatment for perianal conditions including haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas ; Pilonidal sinus surgery ; Ingrown toenail surgery.   Dan also contributes to the on-call roster at St Andrews Hospital Ipswich and is happy to accept referrals for all general surgical emergencies.

 

When not at work Dan enjoys time with family, playing golf when he can, fishing if he gets the time, and supporting the Queensland Reds and Wallabies.
